1. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from exhaust gases. A chemical reaction only occurs under high temperature and pressure conditions, ensuring the engine combustion chamber temperature and pressure meet these requirements, especially during forced acceleration.

 

2. When the engine is under load, the EGR valve opens, allowing a small amount of exhaust gas to enter the intake manifold and mix with the combustible mixture before entering the combustion chamber. When the EGR valve closes, the engine idles, and almost no exhaust gas is recirculated to the engine.

 

3. Automotive exhaust gases are non-flammable (containing no fuel or oxidizer) and do not participate in combustion within the combustion chamber. They reduce combustion temperature and pressure by absorbing some of the heat generated during combustion, thereby reducing the amount of NOx produced.
